Overview

The Coordinator of Advocacy & Member Engagement provides oversight to the organization’s members and family advisory board and associated advisory board committees. This position works collaboratively with OPWDD Officials, legislators and their staff, and the CCO advocacy committee, in carrying out their responsibility to the develop and implement Care Design NY advocacy initiatives.  The coordinator is responsible for developing relationships with community stakeholders that enhance the understanding of a CCO/HH and issues relevant to people with I/DD and their families.    In addition, the coordinator will facilitate education efforts, information sharing, and communication with our members and their families about current advocacy efforts and areas of focus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop timely and relevant advocacy efforts based on significant issues related to people with developmental disabilities which may include but are not limited to, understanding changes in Medicaid benefits, OPWDD services and supports, changes in DOH policy etc.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of the advocacy platform that promotes positive system changes for the people with IDD and their family members.
  • Responsible for the ongoing development of relationships with family members as well as ongoing and continuous efforts to increase family and member engagement with the existing stakeholder advisory committees and open member and family meetings.
  • Participate in the Business Leadership Team (BLT).
  • Remain upto date with relevantindustryspecific developmentsthat affect stakeholders withinthe IDD community, including but not limited to, NYS OPWDD,NY stategovernment, Centersfor MedicaidMedicare,NYDepartmentofHealth,healthcareproviders,andtheIDD provider
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and lines of communication with members and
  • Develop and maintain relationships with CMANY family and legislative advocacy partners.
  • Oversight of CDNY’s Individual and Family Advisory Board (IFAB), and related workgroups, and member feedback meetings throughout the
  • Identify support opportunities to highlight individual and care management success stories to enhance the educational efforts of Care Design to community stakeholders, including state agency personnel and legislative aides.
  • Lead the organization’s participation in industry-related events such as campaigns, rallies, and other advocacy movements.
  • Actively develop relationships with community stakeholders and advocacy groups for the purpose of enhancing the mission.
  • Will supervise the Individual and Family Liaison.
  • Meet all training requirements on time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree preferred, in areas such as human services, non-profit management, and healthcare management.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in government relations, stakeholder or customer engagement, public health initiatives or nonprofit management.
  • Must have experience supporting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, five years preferred.
  • Flexibility to work from home with occasional participation at in-person and community-based events, some of which may occur outside of normal business hours.
  • Experience with use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, SharePoint, and TEAMs.
  • Experience in preparing reports for and presenting/speaking to various audiences.
